2 Dead, 5 Injured as Dr Henry Bello Opens Fire at New York Hospital
A gunman identified as Dr Henry Bello has reportedly caused the death of 1 person and left 5 others injured after he opened fire on occupants of the Bronx-Lebanon hospital in New York City, United States of America (USA).
Security agents at the scene of the crime told newsmen that Dr Henry Bello turned the gun on himself to take his own life after killing a woman and causing varying degrees of injuries to 5 other persons at the hospital on Friday. The deceased victim’s body was found next to Dr Bello’s equally lifeless body.
The doctor whose origin is yet to be conclusively ascertained was said to be a former employee of the hospital where the shooting took place. He wore a lab coat and had his identity card on him at the time of the incident.
The mayor of the city, Mr Bill de Blasio was said to have been briefed on the unfolding situation.
According to CNN, the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital in the Bronx borough is among the largest providers of outpatient services in New York.
Video images from the scene also reportedly showed hospital employees and others coming out of the hospital’s main entrance, their hands in the air, and crossing the street toward awaiting police officers.
America continues to battle issues of gun violence often reflected in the form of killing of unarmed black Americans by white policemen and also in the form of sporadic shooting incidents at cinemas, schools and other public spaces.
