Cardi B Emerges Top Nominee for 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards

Cardi B is fast becoming the reigning queen of hip hop, and it is all thanks to her smash hit single Bodak Yellow which rose to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts.

Now, the American rapper emerges, alongside top acts like DJ Khaled and Kendrick, as top nominee for the 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards 2017, with each act bagging nine nominations.

According to Billboard which broke the news, the Kendrick Lamar and DJ Khaled battle for the awards in several categories, including single of the year, album of the year, best hip hop video, hustler of the year and MVP of the year. While Cardi B got the nods for  single of the year, best hip hop video, MVP of the year and hustler of the year, and best new hip hop artist.

Other stars who made the categories include Playboi Carti, Aminé, Kodak Black and Tee Grizzley. Nothing has been heard of Nicki Minaj who dropped a slew of collaborative projects this year.

But is Cardi B really taking Nicki Minaj’s place?

For almost a decade, Nicki Minaj ruled the waves, was the dominant female voice in the industry, and has raked up over 100 plaques, going multi-platinum too many times to count, plus she controls a massive fanbase.

After her beef with Remy Ma, there has been a clamour for a new female voice, and Cardi B is feeding that longing, thanks, again, to Bodak Yellow. And now, she is raking in the nominations, knocking Nicki Minaj off the lead chart.

Well, we hope that this winning streak continues, that her upcoming album tops charts too, because Nicki Minaj is set to drop her next studio album soon.
