The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Sunday announced that it had arrested a 56-year-old Boko Haram kingpin in Aski Uba Local Government Area of Borno.

This was revealed by the Commandant of the NSCDC in Borno State, Mr Ibrahim Abdullahi, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in the state capital, Maiduguri.

Abdullahi said that the suspect, whose three children were revealed to be key operatives of the insurgents, was apprehended at Mussa village on June 7.

“Our men have made remarkable progress by arresting a Boko Haram kingpin,” the commandant said.

“The notorious kingpin was said to be a recruiter as well as supplier of arms and IEDs to Boko Haram terrorists.

“He confessed that his three children were also arrow heads of the Boko Haram sect.’’ he said.

Mr Abdullahi went further to state that the command had since handed over the suspect to the army for further investigation.

The Islamic sect has been greatly incapacitated by Nigerian forces in recent times, forcing them to shift their operations further North with neighbouring Niger subjected to devastating attacks these past weeks.
