After sparking speculations over his future, Cristiano Ronaldo has made a u-turn and decided to stay at Real Madrid – but only for one more year.

Ronaldo stunned Europe last month by announcing his intention to quit Madrid and Spain altogether following accusations of tax fraud.

The 32-year-old was said to have made an irreversible decision to leave the club, drawing strong interests from French giants Paris Saint Germain and Premier League big guns Manchester United.

However, Ronaldo, who recently became father to a set of twins, reportedly had a change of heart, with Express claiming he did so for three reasons.

It is understood that his agent Jorge Mendes has told him he should stay put because his profile will remain higher at Madrid than it would in Paris, that being in a better team gives him a better chance of winning another Ballon d’Or, and that he would be in a better shape for next summer’s World Cup after a season in Spain.

Ronaldo has now won back-to-back Champions League titles, (three in four years), to put himself in pole position to win the Ballon d’Or this season and equal the record held by Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.

The Portugal captain could look to move to PSG next summer and will also have interest from the money-spinning Chinese League and MLS.

Meanwhile, Madrid remain hopeful of selling the likes of Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez to help fund a world record move for Monaco starlet Kylian Mbappe, considered a long term replacement for Ronaldo.
