FG, Redeem Church Neglect Teens Billed For Steelband Competition In South Africa

The Redeem Christian Church Of God, RCCG Rose of Sharon Parish, Lagos Province 31 Teens are to Participate in Steelband Competition in South Africa and the kids billed to perform are being neglected by the church and Nigeria.

The Rose of Sharon(ROS) parish in Province 31 of Region 1, of the Redeemed Christian Church of God situated in Agbara, in Ogun State, recently acquired steelpans (Caribbean musical) instruments donated by a church member, who also trained the teenagers of the church to play these instruments.

The RCCG Parish is now a proud owner of a Teenage Steelband made up of children between ages 11 and 17, in the parish who have learned the steelpan art and have been constructively engaged in playing the steelpan instruments since 2016 the first of its kind in Nigeria.
The Steelpan art has recently been proven to be a recreational art as well as a means of developing intellectual ability, especially for young students. Science has shown how both sides of the brain are developed by playing the steelpan instruments, with its positive impact on improvement in mathematics (Joan Bobb-Alleyne-Dann, 2008).
The ROS Teenage Steelband have been invited to participate in an international steelband competition in South Africa, scheduled for July 26th to August 3rd 2017 at St Dominic’s Catholic School for Girls Boksburg, Gauteng Province, South Africa  and given the opportunity to REPRESENT NIGERIA in that competition.

This is a great opportunity for these teenagers to engage in educational workshops, broaden their intellectual capabilities, mingle and compete with children from others parts of the world.
The ROS parish and parents of these teens cannot afford this trip, and considering that they are the only steelband representing Nigeria at the competition this is an avenue where Nigeria will be shown to other parts of the world as the Heartbeat of Africa who are talented in whatever they do.

Though, they have been able to raise the sum of #581,000 (Five Hundred and Eighty-One thousand naira only) from the RCCG Rose of Sharon parish, an RCCG parish in London, another RCCG parish in Victoria Island, and three individuals.
They require much more for passports, visas, air tickets, accommodation, ground transport, workshop registration and feeding for fifteen (15) teenagers and three adults. These will cost Seven Million, Eight Hundred and Seventy-Six Thousand, Six Hundred and Forty Naira, only (#7,876,640).
We look forward to more support, and FAST too, because they are billed to travel on the 25th of July and they still need time to make passports and obtain visas.
