ICPC Probes 4 Officials of Management Institute in Enugu for N113m Fraud

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has commenced investigations into allegations of illegal collection of sums amounting in total to about N113 million by officials of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) in Enugu state.

So far, four principal officers of the management institute have been summoned by the ICPC after petitions received by the commission indicated that the officials collected the sum of N40,000 each from students for hostel accommodation.

The collection was deemed illegal and the ICPC had earlier advised the officials at the management institute to return the sums collected to the students which they however failed to do.

The ICPC thereafter asked the Rector of IMT to release the officers to the commission for investigation, reports Vanguard.

Officials of the IMT summoned by the ICPC included the Registrar, Head of Agricultural Department, Head of Final Account and the Chief Engineer of the institution.

The letter sent to the rector of the institute read inpart:

The Commission is investigating a case that borders on violation of the ICPC Act, 2000.

“Pursuant to Section 28 of the cited Act, you are required to release the following officers of the Institute to appear before the undersigned at the Commission’s Headquarters on dates indicated against their names:

“Mr. Sylvanus Asogwa (Registrar) and HOD Agriculture, October 26; while the Head of Final Account, Mr. Collins Ossai and Chief Engineer, Engr. Luke Mmamel, will appear on October 27.

A pressure group, Anti-Graft Crusaders of Nigeria in Tertiary Institutes, IMT chapter, had forwarded a petition to the ICPC which necessitated the investigation.

Earlier in the year, the ICPC arraigned a former rector of the management institute, Prof Edwin Onyeneje for a fraudulent diversion of N83 million being the property of the institution.
