Jose Mourinho Joins Acting, Gets to Play Pope in Animation Movie

Jose Mourinho may have his hands full after recently taking over from Louis Van Gaal as the manager of Manchester United.

But it seems the self-proclaimed Special One has found some spare time for a rather bizarre side project and will play the Pope in an animated film about the city of Fatima.

The highly-revered football manager was chosen to be the voice of Pope Francis in Portuguese, English, Spanish and Italian for the new movie.

Jose Mourinho, who calls himself the “Special One, may soon change it to the “Only One”, and who can begrudge him, really?

After landing his dream job by becoming Manchester United manager, the self-styled Portuguese has turned his hands to films where he gets to play the Pope, no less.

The 53-year-old former Chelsea boss has agreed a deal to lend his voice to the character of Pope Francis in an animated film due for release in 2017 for the centenary of the apparition of the Virgin Mary in Fatima, Portugal.

Mourinho will be the voice of the Argentine pontiff in Portuguese, English, Spanish and Italian – “the languages of the countries where he (Mourinho) has already been a champion”, said the Portuguese production company Imaginew.

The use of Mourinho in the animated film “has already received the approval of the Vatican”, said the production company.

Mou as Pope? Beats the imagination!
