Manchester United continue to flex their financial muscle in the summer transfer by splashing out for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku, 23, went AWOL from Everton duties last night to have his Manchester United medical at a facility in Los Angeles, California, Sun writes.

The big Belgian was due at LAX yesterday afternoon to fly back from his summer break and link up with the Everton squad, but he opted to stay back in the States with buddy Paul Pogba before joining his new team on their pre-season tour.

Lukaku and new teammate Pogba were pictured training at the UCLA complex where the former Chelsea striker underwent his medicals ahead of his £75million switch.

Pogba – who has holidayed with Lukaku for the last two summers – is thought to have played a key role in convincing his pal to choose Old Trafford over Premier League champions, Chelsea.

His decision to join United is yet another transfer win for Jose Mourinho against his former club Chelsea who were desperate to bring their former star back to Stamford Bridge this summer after admitting they were wrong to let him join Everton in 2013.

Apart from taking Romelo Lukaku from under Chelsea’s nose, Mourinho and Ed Woodward had already snatched Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic from Stamford Bridge as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.

Meanwhile, reports have it that United have also stepped up their pursuit of Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez to bring creative spark to the side as captain Wayne Rooney looks set to return to Everton.
