Manchester City Drops Kelechi Iheanacho

Manchester City star Kelechi Iheanacho has been left out of the squad that travelled to the United States on Monday for their pre-season tour.

City boss Pep Guardiola surprisingly included Samir Nasri, Eliaquim Mangala, Gael Clichy and Jason Denayer, who  were earlier declared surplus to requirements, shunning Nigeria striker Iheanacho and Ivory Coast forward Wilfried Bony.

Guardiola’s men face Manchester United in Houston on Thursday before playing matches against Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United in the International Champions Cup.

Iheanacho’s exclusion from the squad is the biggest indication yet that the 20-year-old is on his way out of Etihad Stadium, having been found surplus to requirements.

The former youth star fell out of favour under Guardiola during the second half of last season, following  the arrival of rising star Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus.

He has been linked with a switch to fellow Premier League sides Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, and is expected to sort out his future in the coming days.

The Super Eagles attacker started just five Premier League games last season in a complete reversal of fortune after a memorable breakout campaign in 2015/16 under former manager Manuel Pellegrini.
