Nigerian Army Donates Instructional Materials To Schools In IDPs Camps

The Nigerian Army on Monday donated teaching and instructional materials to schools in the three existing Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in Adamawa.

Presenting the materials at a ceremony in Malkohi Camp in Yola, the Brigade Commander of 23rd Armoured Brigade Yola, Brig. Gen. Benson Akinroluyo, said the gesture was in compliance with Chief of Army Staff’s directive to the Nigerian Army Education Corps (NAEC).

Akinroluyo said that apart from the materials, the military would continue to deploy its men from NAEC to serve as teachers in the schools.

The brigade commander stressed the need to provide qualitative education for the children at various IDPs’ camps.

He said that the need for military to continue to win the hearts and minds of the citizens necessitated the earlier deployment of teachers to the IDPs’ camp.

“The teachers who are military personnel are drawn from NAEC to compliment efforts of the state, NGOs and agencies in providing educational services to these vulnerable children in IDP camps,’’ he said.

Akinroluyo said the military would not relent in effort to contribute its quota in educating the youth.

He said that education had a role to play in the socio-psychological upbringing of youths as backbone of national development.

In his remarks at the occasion, the Head of Operations of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Adamawa/Taraba, Mr Sa’ad Bello, lauded the military for its “key role” in the lives of IDPs.

Bello, who also thanked the army education corps, said its men deployed to teach in the camp were doing a wonderful job.

“About all the pupils in the camps that sat for the last common entrance examination passed,” Bello said.

Also speaking, the Adamawa Commissioner of Education, Dr Kaletapwa Farauta, also commended the gesture by the military.

He assured the military of the state government’s continued collaboration with the military in providing quality education for the pupils.

Farauta noted that the military also recently approved three Command Schools in the state, adding that the state governor was happy with the development, adding that Gov.Bindo Jibrilla would personally inaugurate the schools.

A representative of the IDPs at Malkohi camp, Mr Nicholas Samuel, also praised the military and all those involved in supporting them. (NAN)
