Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards winner Obi Emelonye has announced his new movie project titled, “Badamasi: Portrait of a General.”

The filmmaker announced the project during a press conference on Tuesday, February 7, 2017.

According to the filmmaker, “Badamasi” will follow an  intimate portrait of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), the General that ruled Nigeria from August 1985 to August 1993.

Born August 17, 1941, IBB is a retired Nigerian Army General who was President of Nigeria under military rule. He ruled Nigeria from August 27, 1985, when he overthrew the then Major General Muhammadu Buhari in a coup.

There were evidence of severe human rights abuses during his regime, including the killing by a letter bomb of Dele Giwa, a magazine editor who passed away in 1986.

He was married to Maryam Babangida, who died from complications of ovarian cancer on December 27, 2009.

Emelonye is popular for “Last Flight to Abuja,” “Mirror Boy,” “Thy Will be Done,” amongst other of his productions.
