OAU Student Dressed Up As A Sexy Nun Has Caused Social Media Uproar

Yesterday, photos of an Obafemi Awolowo University student dressed as a sexy nun surfaced on social media, and it has since been causing media reaction.

According to Comment Session, the school held their annual Costume Day and the final year student stepped out in the controversial outfit. Not long after, her photos appeared on social media, and angry, religious zealots have been calling her out, accusing her of ‘blasphemy’.

But did she really blaspheme?

In a similar scenario last September, Madonna was accused of blasphemy by angry fans after she dressed up as a sexy nun at her Rebel Tour in New York. At the concert, the pop icon stripped her costume to reveal a nun’s habit and then she started to pole-dance.  Her backup dancers also wore their habits over racy underwear, and to add salt to injury, the pop queen began to make out with her dancers; on stage.

While outraged Catholics took the the singer’s page to protest, Bill Donohue of the Catholic League dismissed the mockery as Madonna’s “last refuge as she struggles to avoid becoming an entertainment has-been”. The Priest added that “Catholic-bashing is the one thing that never gets old.”

And so, for the OAU student whose outfit is now causing raves, shouldn’t her attempt be simply received as a costume that it is?
