1 Division Nigerian Army Commences Inter-Brigade Officers Combat Proficiency Competition
1 Division Nigerian Army (NA) on 14 August 2023 commenced her Inter-Brigade Officers Combat Proficiency Competition 2023 at the Nigerian Defence Academy Sports Complex Ribadu Cantonment, Kaduna.
The Special Guest of Honour, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division NA and Force Commander Operation WHIRL PUNCH, Maj Gen BA Alabi while giving his opening remarks stated that the competition is aimed at improving officers combat proficiency, physical fitness, the use of initiative and also to prepare them for battle in view of the current security challenges in the country.
The SGOH who was represented by the Commander 51 Signals Brigade, Brig Gen H Yanet reiterated that the Competition is in line with the Chief of Army Staff Command Philosophy which is to “Transform the Nigerian Army into a Well-trained, Equipped and Highly Motivated Force Towards Achieving Our Constitutional Responsibilities Within a Joint Environment”.
He added that for the NA to effectively surmount today’s complex environment, it requires robust training and exercises of this nature and esprit de corps, coupled with effective leadership.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Chief host and Commander 1 Division Garrison, Brig Gen C Ogbuabo urged participants, umpires and officials to abide by the laid down rules and regulations and applauded the SGOH for availing all logistics requirements for the safe hosting of the Competition.
The competing formations are: 1 Division Garrison, 3 Brigade and 31 Artillery Brigade. The three formations are competing intensively in range classification, map reading/point to point, combat swimming and obstacle crossing.
The highpoints of the opening ceremony were range classification, stripping and assembling of AK 47 and FN rifles by the competing formations and group photograph.
