1 Division Nigerian Army Hosts West African Social Activities 2025

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), and Commander, Sector 1 Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed Wase, on Saturday hosted the Year 2025 edition of the West African Social Activities (WASA) for officers, soldiers, and their families at the 2 Battalion Parade Ground, Ribadu Cantonment, Kaduna.

The colourful annual event, which marks the end of training activities for the year, attracted dignitaries including the Special Guest of Honour, the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, His Excellency Malam Uba Sani, CON, government officials, traditional rulers, heads of security agencies, and retired senior military officers. The Governor commended the Nigerian Army for sustaining WASA as a unifying platform and praised 1 Division for its achievements in combating kidnapping, cattle rustling, and armed banditry through Operation FANSAN YAMMA.

In a remark, the Governor who was represented by the Deputy, Dr Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe applauded the synergy among security agencies, noting that the gallantry and professionalism of the troops have significantly enhanced peace and stability in Kaduna State and its environs. The Governor commended the rich cultural displays, which showcased Nigeria’s diverse heritage and strengthened civil–military relations.

Earlier, the GOC while speaking, describes WASA as a reflection of the barracks as a melting pot of cultures and an opportunity to appraise the Division’s 2025 training activities, which he said were largely successful. He noted that joint operations under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have drastically reduced security threats within the Division’s Area of Responsibility and paid tribute to fallen heroes. He also appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General W Shaibu, NAM, for his continuous support, strategic guidance, and leadership, which enhanced professionalism and regimentation in the Nigerian Army.

Dignitaries who graced the event include; Governor of Jigawa State represented by his deputy, Engr Aminu Usman Gumel, government officials, heads of security/paramilitary agencies, Agom of Kachia, families and friends of officers and men of the Division among others.

Highlights of the event included cultural performances, a tug-of-war competition, presentation of awards to outstanding personnel, the ceremonial lowering of flags to mark the end of the year’s activities among others.
