13 Brigade Holds Send-Off Ceremony For Regular Recruit Intake After Years Of Meritorious Service
Headquarters 13 Brigade, Nigerian Army, on 26 September 2025 hosted a befitting send-off ceremony in honour of distinguished soldiers of the 32 Regular Recruit Intake who are proceeding on retirement after decades of exemplary and dedicated service to the nation.
The colourful event, held at the Warrant Officers and Sergeants’ Mess, Headquarters 13 Brigade, Calabar, celebrated the unwavering commitment, discipline, and professionalism of the retirees whose careers spanned numerous theatres of operation across Nigeria and beyond.
Speaking at the ceremony, Commander 13 Brigade, Brigadier General MO Ibrahim, lauded the retiring personnel for their selfless sacrifice and steadfast loyalty to the Nigerian Army and the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He noted that their dedication to duty and sterling conduct remain a shining example for younger officers and soldiers to emulate.
“Today we honour men and women who have devoted the prime of their lives to the defence of our dear country. Their courage, resilience, and integrity have strengthened the Nigerian Army and contributed immensely to national peace and security. They leave behind a legacy of professionalism and patriotism that will inspire generations,” he said.
Brigadier General Ibrahim further encouraged the retirees to prioritise their health, eat well, and engage in regular exercise to enjoy longevity and a fulfilling post-service life. He also advised them to be wary of fraudulent individuals who may attempt to lure them into investing their retirement benefits in Ponzi schemes or other dubious ventures, stressing the importance of making only well-guided financial decisions.
The soldiers are embarking on terminal leave after which they will report to the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC), Lagos, in January 2026 for vocational training in a variety of skills before finally proceeding on full retirement.
The ceremony featured presentation of plaques as well as goodwill messages from officers, soldiers, family members, and friends. Cultural displays and a regimental band performance added colour to the occasion.
On behalf of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ibrahim expressed appreciation to the families of the retirees for their unwavering support throughout years of active service, often spent in challenging operational environments. He reaffirmed that the 13 Brigade remains committed to the welfare of both serving and retired personnel and assured the veterans that the NAFRC programme will further equip them with valuable skills for life after service.
