13 Brigade Nigerian Army Clarifies Viral Video On Alleged Road Blockage Along Ikom-Boki Axis, Reaffirms Safety In Cross River State

The Headquarters 13 Brigade Nigerian Army has observed the circulation of a viral video on social media depicting some armed men stopping motorists and warning them not to ply a particular road between Monday and Wednesday.

In the footage, one of the motorists is heard stating that he was travelling to Ikom. This statement has led to speculation in certain quarters that the incident occurred along the Ikom-Boki Road in Cross River State.

Following a deliberate review and preliminary investigation, the Brigade wishes to categorically state that there is no evidence indicating that the incident took place anywhere within Cross River State. A critical examination of the video reveals vehicle registration plates consistent with those used in neighbouring Cameroon, strongly suggesting that the incident likely occurred outside the territory of Nigeria.

Notwithstanding, in keeping with its proactive security posture, troops of 13 Brigade immediately intensified patrols and maintained operational dominance along the Ikom-Boki axis and adjoining communities. The security situation throughout Cross River State remains stable and firmly under control. There has been no report of any armed group mounting roadblocks or restricting the movement of motorists within the State.

Cross River State remains safe for residents, commuters, businesses, and visitors. Troops, in collaboration with other security agencies, continue to conduct routine patrols, checkpoints, and intelligence-driven operations to sustain the prevailing peace and ensure freedom of movement across all major routes.

The Commander 13 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Patrick Alimikhena, reassured the public that the Brigade remains vigilant and fully committed to its constitutional mandate. In his words:

“Cross River State is safe and secure. We will not allow criminal elements or misinformation to create fear where none exists. Our troops are on ground, alert, and fully prepared to respond decisively to any threat to the peace and security of our people.”

The Brigade therefore urges members of the public to disregard the misleading narrative surrounding the viral video and to desist from spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic. Citizens are encouraged to rely on official channels for credible updates on security matters and to promptly report any suspicious activity to security agencies.

The Headquarters 13 Brigade Nigerian Army remains resolute in safeguarding lives and property and sustaining the peaceful atmosphere currently enjoyed across Cross River State.
