13 Brigade Nigerian Army Conducts Free Medical Outreach At Ikot Nakanda Community, Cross River

In a sustained effort to strengthen civil–military relations and enhance the well-being of host communities, Headquarters 13 Brigade Nigerian Army, Calabar, has conducted a free medical outreach for residents of Ikot Nakanda in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The exercise, held on Thursday 11 September 2025, provided hundreds of beneficiaries with free medical consultations, treatment, eye screening, malaria testing, blood pressure checks, and the distribution of essential drugs. Treated mosquito nets were also given out to promote preventive healthcare among the populace.

Speaking at the event, the Commander 13 Brigade, Brigadier General MO Ibrahim, stated that the initiative formed part of the Nigerian Army’s civil–military cooperation activities aimed at giving back to society. He emphasized that while the Army’s core mandate remains the defence of the nation, it equally recognizes the importance of supporting communities in ways that directly impact lives.

“We are committed not only to defending the country but also to contributing to the welfare of our people. This medical outreach is our modest way of showing care and strengthening the bond between the Nigerian Army and the good people of Cross River State,” he said.

Beneficiaries of the outreach expressed appreciation, describing the exercise as timely and impactful, particularly for rural dwellers with limited access to medical care. Community leaders and traditional rulers present commended the Nigerian Army for the humanitarian gesture and pledged continued support for its operations.

The medical outreach underscores the Nigerian Army’s non-kinetic approach to fostering peace, unity, and cooperation with its host communities across the country.
