14 Brigade Emerges Winner Of 82 Division Inter-Brigade Combat Proficiency Competition 2024

In a keenly contested competition, 14 Brigade Nigerian Army Ohafia has emerged as the overall winner of the 82 Division Nigerian Army Inter- Brigade Combat Proficiency Competition 2024 which was held from 19 – 23 August 2024 at Headquarters 82 Division Physical Training ground Abakpa Military Cantonment, Enugu. Participants from various formations under the Division showcased exceptional leadership, technical prowess, and teamwork among others during the 5 days competition.

The Special Guest Of Honour and General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division Nigerian Army and Force Commander Joint Task Force South East Operations UDO KA, Major General Hassan Taiwo Dada stated that 82 Division will continue to implement various training programs and competitions in line with Army Headquarters directives and Forecast of events for the year.

He reiterated that new skills will continue to be acquired, areas of weaknesses will be strengthened and worked upon. Adding that the Division is working in line with the Chief of Army Staff Command Philosophy which is “To transform the Nigerian Army into a well – trained, equipped and highly motivated force towards achieving our constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment”, thus the Nigerian Army must constantly engage in training and retraining of officers and men in order to sharpen their horizon and professional competence, especially in the face of the current security challenges in the Country.

During the closing ceremony of 82 Division Inter – Brigade Combat Proficiency Competition, General Dada said that training is the bedrock of military profession, adding that the Division would continue to train and retrain so as to develop the capabilities of the officers in order to handle complex security challenges in the Division area of responsibility.

He congratulated individuals and formations with outstanding performance and urged those that did not do well to trained more and restrategise and have good performances in the future competition.

General Dada further appreciates the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja for his leadership and support to the success of the Division and competition.

The competition ended with the 14 Brigade Nigerian Army Ohafia, emerging the overall winner with a total scores of 4,690 points, 34 Artillery Brigade Owerri scored 4,580 to come second position, 44 Engineer Brigade had 4,540 as third position, 13 Brigade Calabar scored 4,300 points as fourth position, while the host 82 Division Garrison has the total point of 4,260 emerging fifth position.

The respective formations competed in Combat Swimming, Weapon Handling (Strippling and Assembling and firing) Map Reading (Day and Night Navigation), 10 Kilometer Combat Run and the competition was climaxed with the almighty Tug of War.

Dignitaries that graced the occasion include the Commander Nigerian Airforce Base Enugu, Commission of Police Enugu State, Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps Enugu, formations and units Commanders, Division staff officers, officers, men and well wishers.

High points of the event were presentation of awards, medals, trophies to deserving individuals and formations, presentation of souvenirs and group photographs.
