Outrage and Intrigue as #SaveMayowa Campaign is Alleged to be a Scam
The allegations that the #SaveMayowa campaign is a ‘scam’ has sent social media into a heated meltdown.
Earlier on today, blogger Linda Ikeji published a post which alleged that the campaign was a scam planned and executed by the family of the sick woman.
However, Bellanaija published a counter report which includes their earlier correspondence with Mayowa’s family, her medical reports, as well as correspondences between the family and Emory International – the healthcare network for international patients based in Atlanta.
The documented report suggests that the family had truly set out to get their daughter medical help abroad, irrespective of the verdict by Nigerian healthcare system. You can see the details here.

UPDATE:
An evidential video has been shared by Life Stake foundation, showing the Toyin Aimakhu and police officers at the Lagos university teaching hospital today.

Meanwhile, Toyin has spoken up on the whole drama and the actress is raging mad at the family for ‘lying to her and making her deceive people’ into helping them through the #SaveMayowa Campaign. According to Toyin, some of Mayowa’s medical reports were also fake.

The plot thickens as some speculators wonder why the family made the first appeal for help using documents from Emory hospital in the US whom they had contacted months ago, where Mayowa was supposed to have her surgery, but in their official statement today they claim that they are planning to take her for treatment in Abu Dhabi
Meanwhile, Nigerians are all out on social media with myriad reactions. While some celebrate the fact that Nigerians united to save one of their own, others are calling out blogger Linda Ikeji for publishing such grievous accusations without facts.

Let me make this clear: If you donated to #SaveMayowa & she travels to the USA & still dies (God forbid), IT IS NOT A SCAM. Understand this.

No matter the outcome of the #SaveMayowa story, the real winners are Nigerians. Against all the odds, we stood up for one of us.

Also… #SaveMayowa is better than #PrayForMayowa
— Ayobami (@dondekojo) July 28, 2016
#SaveMayowa won’t be necessary in UK. They have the NHS. Nigerians are left to fend for themselves, no social contract
That’s the big story
