The National Water Resources Institute, in collaboration with the 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, on Monday 1 December organised a sensitisation lecture for officers, soldiers and their families to commemorate the 2025 World AIDS Day in Kano.
The event, held at the Bukavu Barracks Sports Centre, featured a lecture on HIV prevalence and the need for sustained, integrated response efforts.
The resource person, an HIV/AIDS expert, Mr Peter Ezekiel, underscored the importance of awareness, prevention and support for people living with HIV.
In his goodwill message, the DIrector General National Water Resources Institute Abduljalal Danbaba represented by Mr Ozoani Humphrey said the 2025 theme: ” *Overcoming Disruption Transforming the Aids Response* ” underscores the need to promote equity, inclusion and protection for people living with HIV.
He said the institute remained committed to creating workplaces free from stigma and discrimination, adding that the HIV Workplace Policy was a significant step toward inclusivity.
Earlier, the Commander, 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmad Tukur, commended the institute for its sustained leadership and advocacy in the HIV/AIDS response.
He stressed the importance of collective efforts in combating the disease and supporting those affected. He thanked the institute for collaborating with the brigade and noted that a healthier soldier translates to better efficiency in service to the country.
World AIDS Day is observed annually on 1 December to increase awareness, prevent new infections, support people living with HIV and honour those who died from AIDS-related illnesses.
A major highlight of the event was free HIV testing for participants to encourage them to know their status and take appropriate preventive measures.
