In the wake of another attack by bandits, at least 18 people have been killed on Monday in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State, North West Nigeria.
According to residents, the bandits may have been on a reprisal attack as they carried out the attack after three suspected bandits were killed by the security agents in the area on Friday.
The police spokesperson in the state, Gambo Isah, told newsmen that one other person was injured in the attack that occurred in Tsauwa village of Katsina State.
The bandits also rustled many livestock and set ablaze houses and silos before fleeing to the forest, several residents reported.
The residents also added that security agents had killed the three suspects on Friday, when they repelled an attack by some gunmen.
However, the bandits apparently regrouped and returned Monday night to unleash terror on the village.
Attacks by bandits have been on the rise in Northern Nigeria as they are known to murder community residents or hold them hostages for ransom.
