
81 Division Garrison Emerges Winner Of Year 2025 Combat Proficiency Competition
The 81 Division Garrison emerged winner of the 81 Division Combat Proficiency Competition 2025. The competition, which commenced on 18 August 2025, at 192 Battalion Owode, Ogun State, culminated in an Obstacle Crossing competition on 21 August 2025.
In his closing remarks, Major General Farouk Umar Mijinyawa, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Nigerian Army, highlighted that the competition was organized in line with the Nigerian Army’s Forecast of Events and the Division’s Training Directive 2025. The GOC emphasized that the competition aims to enhance leadership skills, professional competence, battle readiness, and esprit de corps among officers while preparing subalterns for higher responsibilities in the face of evolving security challenges.
He expressed optimism that the competition has improved the participants’ proficiency, sharpened their skills, and enhanced their mental alertness. He further noted that the competition has underscored the importance of teamwork and team spirit, which are essential hallmarks of military service.
At the end of the competition, 81 Division Garrison emerged overall winners, clinching the top spot with a cumulative of 370 points. They won the Combat Swimming and Physical Fitness/Obstacle Crossing categories. 9 Brigade secured the second position with 360 points, winning the Map Reading/Navigation and Skill at Arms/Shooting categories. 45 Engineer Brigade, on the other hand, came third with 320 points, while 35 Artillery Brigade came 4th with 310 points.
The GOC expressed confidence that the competition has prepared participants to meet current and future tasks, stressing that he looks forward to seeing visible changes in the conduct of the Division’s training and operational activities.
The closing ceremony was attended by prominent dignitaries, including traditional rulers and commanders of 81 Division formations, senior officers, commanding officers, and heads of security agencies and organizations.
Highlights of the closing ceremony was the presentation of trophies to the winning formations and participants who distinguished themselves during the competition, presentation of souvenirs to dignitaries, vote of thanks by the Commanding Officer 192 Battalion (Rear) on behalf of the host formation and group photographs..
