89 Regular Recruits Intake Showcase Strength and Endurance At Depot Nigerian Army Osogbo 20km Race

Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, on Saturday 18 October 2025, conducted an Inter-Company 20 Kilometres Endurance Race Competition for members of the 89 Regular Recruit Intake as part of their ongoing training activities at the Home of Regimentation. The event, which commenced from the Depot’s First Gate, was flagged off by the Deputy Commandant, Colonel Mathias Obi, and featured all training companies of the intake.

In his remarks, the Special Guest of Honour, Vice President of the Retired Army, Navy and Air Force Officers Association (RANAO), Air Vice Marshal Samuel Abosede (Rtd), commended the Commandant and instructors for their dedication to the professional development of the recruits. He lauded the endurance displayed by the participants and urged them to sustain the spirit of excellence and hard work.

He further congratulated all participants for their courage and determination, emphasizing that such exercises are vital to the Nigerian Army’s mission of producing fit, disciplined, and mission-ready soldiers capable of defending the territorial integrity of the nation.

At the end of the keenly contested race, Juliet Training Company emerged overall champion, while Delta and Charlie Training Companies finished as first and second runners-up respectively. Hotel Company came tenth and was awarded the wooden spoon. Medals and cash prizes were presented to the top three male and female recruits with the fastest finishing times.

The endurance race is part of the physical training programme aimed at building recruits’ stamina, resilience, and teamwork in preparation for the rigours of military service. It also fosters comradeship and competitive spirit among the recruits essential qualities in molding them into disciplined and professional soldiers.

The occasion was attended by notable dignitaries, including the former Director Army Sport Physical Training ( ASPT) Chairman of RANAO Osun State Chapter, Brigadier General Ademola Aderigbibe; the Vice Chairman; Deputy Commandant, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Osun State Command; as well as officers and soldiers of the Depot.
