Training Key To Manpower Development Combat Readiness – Commandant NAAS

The Commandant, Nigerian Army Armour School (NAAS), Major General Abubakar Ahmed, says continuous training remains critical to manpower development, operational efficiency and combat readiness of troops.

Major General Ahmed made the remark on Tuesday, 5 May 2026 at the inauguration of the Combined Second Quarter Courses 2026 held at the Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya Auditorium, Obienu Barracks, Bauchi State.

Represented by the Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies, Brigadier General Alhassan Mohammed Haruna, the Commandant charged the students to show unwavering commitment to training. He stressed that rigorous and realistic training is central to producing well-trained personnel for the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps, in line with the Chief of Army Staff, Command Philosophy.

Brigadier General Haruna urged the students to be efficient, focused and hardworking throughout their courses. He emphasized the need for them to maintain physical, mental and emotional fitness, noting that lectures, exercises and events are compulsory to enhance their ability to perform optimally when deployed.

He further stated that discipline would be strictly enforced during the courses, warning that any form of examination malpractice would attract appropriate sanctions.

He further thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu for the logistics and financial support that have ensured the smooth running of the School. He equally appreciated the Commander Armoured Corps, Major General Umar Abubakar, for his continued commitment to the School.

The Combined Second Quarter Courses comprise: Armour Young Officers Course, Tactics Instructors Course Soldiers, Crew Commander Course, A2 Crewman Recce Auto Course, A2 Crewman Tank Auto Course, A2 Crewman Recce Weapon Course, A2 Crewman Tank Weapon Course, A2 Crewman Communication Course, and Crewman Driving and Maintenance Course.

High points of the ceremony included the presentation of the course outlines and introduction of students by the Acting Director, Tactics Department, Colonel IJ Etuk. The event ended with a group photograph.
