Office Of The National Security Adviser Commends HQ 6 Division Nigerian Army For Protection Of Critical National Infrastructure

The Director of Energy Security, Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Mr. Goodluck Ebelo, and the Chief Executive Officer of New Guard Security Services Limited, Major General Jamilu Saham (rtd), on 17 June 2026, commended the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force (South-South) Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Emmanuel Emekah, for the protection of Critical National Infrastructure in the Niger Delta and across the nation. The commendation was made during a courtesy visit by the newly appointed Director of Energy Security, ONSA, and the CEO of New Guard Security Services Limited to Headquarters 6 Division Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt Barracks, Rivers State.

Speaking during the visit, Mr. Goodluck Ebelo stated that crude oil production has significantly increased over the past two years, enabling the Federal Government to generate more revenue for the nation’s treasury. He attributed this achievement largely to the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, particularly the Nigerian Army, in securing critical national assets and combating economic sabotage. He further praised the leadership style of Major General Emmanuel Emekah and expressed confidence in the Nigerian Army’s ability to sustain the current momentum in safeguarding national assets and maintaining security across the country.

In his response, Major General Emmanuel Emekah congratulated Mr. Goodluck Ebelo on his appointment as Director of Energy Security, ONSA. He reiterated the commitment of the Armed Forces, particularly the Nigerian Army, to ensuring that criminals do not compromise the nation’s critical infrastructure and economic assets. The GOC assured the delegation that 6 Division would continue to intensify efforts towards protecting national assets and supporting initiatives aimed at improving security in the Niger Delta region.

Major General Emekah identified one of the major challenges facing security agencies in the Niger Delta as the failure of some oil companies to fully implement the terms of their Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with host communities. He noted that such failures have often resulted in protests and tensions within the communities. He therefore, urged the Director of Energy Security to engage relevant stakeholders and encourage oil companies to honour their agreements with host communities. Highlights of the visit included the signing of the visitors’ book, presentation of souvenirs, and a group photograph.
