ABUJA IMAM FOUND DEAD IN UNCOMPLETED BUILDING, FAMILY, POLICE REACTS

The lifeless body of a Muslim cleric, identified as Mallam Abdurashid Usman, who happens to be the Imam of Kubwa Muslim Cemetery, has been found in an uncompleted building near his farm at Kubwa, Abuja on Thursday.

A family member, one Adamu Ismaila confirmed this to newsmen yesterday. He said the Imam was declared missing after failing to return home from the farm, where he had reportedly gone to fetch some firewood.

The late Malam Abdurrashid is said to hail from Warawa in Kano State. According to the earlier mentioned relative, the incident was reported to the Police before the discovery of the body.

“We dispersed into the bush around Gado-Nasko farm from 8pm till 12am, but we could not trace him, apart from his clothes, a wheel truck that he used, as well as his axe, and the firewood.”

He said another search party was mobilised the next day in continuation of the search around the same location but with a wider range.

He said the search party focused on the said area because it was clear that the late Imam had left home for his farm before he was declared missing.

“Yesterday morning, we conducted another round of search around the same location, and we were in the process of giving up when one of us advised that we should extend the search to an uncompleted building. We met his body with injuries on his head looking like he was hit with some of the firewood found close to the body”, he said.

Although an official response or statement was yet to be released by the Abuja Police authorities as at the time of filing this report, local sources said the insecurity around the suburb areas of Abuja municipality has degenerated into a worrisome state for some times now.

When contacted for a response, the Divisional Police Officer of FCDA Quarters, Kubwa, CSP Hussaini Abdullahi, contrary to information earlier gathered, said the matter was yet to be formally lodged with the Police.

This is as locals called on Government and security ahemcies to come to their aid for the menace of armed robbers, ritual killers and bandits to be nipped in the bud. They say a situation where residents no longer sleep with their two eyes closed leaves much to be desired.

They also expressed worries that bandits affiliated to BH/ISWAP may have infiltrated Abuja Abuja neighbhourhoods in recent times.

Family sources say the body has been buried according to Ismalic injunctions.
