
Acquire Knowledge and Skills Necessary To Protect and Promote Human Rights, GOC 6 Division Tells Troops
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah has charged troops of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA) and other security agencies to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to protect and promote human rights while discharging their constitutional responsibilities. He gave the charge at a 3-day seminar organized by TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited (TEPNG) on Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights Training held at Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya Badminton Court, Port Harcourt Barracks today, 25 April 2025.
Major General Emekah pointed out that the training marked another journey in enhancing the troops skills, expand knowledge and also strengthen their understanding on human rights. He further added that the training was indeed a unique opportunity provided for other security agencies to train on these critical aspects.
The GOC further stressed that the training was not only a unique opportunity but also a platform that enhanced the operational capacity of the Division. He maintained that it also strengthened the bond of cooperation amongst agencies in line with COAS, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede’s Command Philosophy. The GOC charged the participants to internalise the knowledge gained, adding that he did not doubt that the resource persons were people with the right experience, who guided the participants appropriately.
Speaking, at the event, the Deputy Managing Director (DMD), Joint Venture (JV), and TotalEnergies, Mr Oliver Cassassoles thanked the NA, particularly, the 6 Division for the unwavering support to the TotalEnergies operations. He equally appreciated the GOC, 6 Division, Major General Emekah for the services the Division is rendering, stressing that the company is operating in the region, where security is critical. The GMD assured the GOC that the company will operate in a safe and secure environment, as well as actualise its responsibilities.
He added that the training conducted at the Division, was a testament to the company’s dedication to the principles of security and human rights. He disclosed that the training clearly deepened the understanding of the troops’ literature of principles and improved its security practice, and essentially fostered respect for human rights. He stressed that the training was aimed at enhancing security protection and strengthening community relations.
Earlier, the General Manager (GM), of Security TotalEnergies, Mr Iliyasu Bagna appreciated the GOC for the collaboration and opportunity to train the troops of 6 Division on the criticality of human rights. The GM also commended the Division Training Officer (DTO), Brigadier General Ishaya Ibrahim for the turnout of the troops and other participants, adding that for many years the relationship between TEPNG and NA, particularly, 6 Division, has been laudable.
He commended the troops of the Division for their zero tolerance for the violation of human rights. This he said, is highly commendable and urged them to utilise the training as a tool to improve on human relations capacity as well as improve on their service delivery to the nation.
While delivering the vote of thanks, the DTO, Brigadier General Ishaya Ibrahim thanked the GOC for creating a conducive environment for the troops of the Division and other security agencies in the State to be the beneficiaries of the program. He urged the participants to apply knowledge acquired in their daily routines as they return to their respective offices.
The 3-day programme had participants drawn from various formations and units as well as other security agencies in the Rivers State. There were also syndicate discussions, presentation of souvenirs, certificates and group photograph.
