Anti-corruption Rally: MAC, NLC Assure EFCC of Support

The Movement Against Corruption, MAC, has assured the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, of support, as it plans to organize a rally to further sensitize the public against the evil of corruption.

Speaking during a meeting with officers of the Public Affairs Directorate of EFCC in her office in Lagos, the Chairman, Steering Committee, MAC, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, lamented the socio-economic problems plaguing the country owing largely to corruption and impunity.

Okei-Odumakin, who is also the President, Women Arise , said it was important to engrave the fight against corruption in the minds of the members of the society.

She added that all stakeholders in the anti-graft war must support the EFCC in its relentless efforts to uproot corruption from the society, so that Nigeria could truly live up to its description as the giant of Africa.

“This is going to be the mother of all rallies against corruption. If you and I can resolve to tackle corruption head-long, the society will be better off for it.

“We can’t remain bystanders in the ongoing war against corruption, as we are all witnesses to the wicked looting of our collective wealth by some undisciplined elements among us, “she further stated.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Lagos chapter, Comrade Idowu Adelakun, pledged to mobilise his group members towards the success of the forthcoming rally.

He also described the move by the Commission to involve the NLC in the rally as “very encouraging and timely”, adding that the Congress is ready to collaborate with the EFCC.

“It is wrong to associate corruption only with the elite. It is a cancerkworm that has eaten deep into the fabric of the society, including the grassroots. In fact, the enlightenment campaign must be taken to and must begin from the grassroots.”
