The results collated from eighteen local government areas of the state revealed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled a total of 319,483 votes while the candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Osagie Ize-Iyamu, came in at a distant second with 253,173 votes.

Godwin Obaseki won in 12 local government areas- Akoko-Edo LGA, Ikpoba-Okha, Etsako West, Etsako East, Etsako Cenral, Owan East LGA, Ovia North LGA, Oredo LGA, Uhunwomnde,  Igueben LGA, Egor LGA, Owan West LG while Ize-Iyamu held down 5 local governement areas- Esan North Central, Esan West LGA, Orhionmwon LGA, Esan South East LGA, Esan North East LGA.

According to Channels, the INEC office in Benin where the results were collated was marked by the heavy presence of law enforcement, following protests by people who alleged that the electoral commission changed the results.

While the agent of the APC at the collation centre expressed satisfaction with the conduct and result of the election, describing it as the result of hard work, the PDP agent expressed strong reservation, referring to the result as a disappointment.

The PDP candidate had called for a cancellation of the results prior to INEC announcing Obaseki the winner. He alleged that the commission worked with the state government to doctor the results in favour of APC.
