Armed Forces Command and Staff College Holds Its Bi-annual Counter-Terrorism Counter-Insurgency Seminar
The Counter-Terrorism Counter-Insurgency (CTCOIN) seminar is a bi-annual event organized by the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) as part of the CTCOIN package of the Junior Course Curricula. The two days seminar is aimed to enhance the students’ understanding of Multi-Agency Operations in an asymmetric threat environment.
In his opening remarks during the event today Friday 2 June 2023, the Commandant, Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, Air Vice Marshal Emmanuel Alu Wonah, welcomed the Special Guest of Honour (SGOH), the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1Div NA, Major General OT Akinjobi to the Faruk Yahaya Aduitorium, venue of the CTCOIN seminar.
AVM Wonah, stated that the theme of the seminar which is, ” *Imperative of Joint CTCOIN Training for Operational Efficiency at the Tactical Level* ,” is germane considering the current involvement of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in combating an array of asymmetric threats confronting the nation. “This seminar recognises the importance of joint CTCOIN training and collaboration amongst the services in CTCOIN operations and challenges, which requires a deliberate and systematic approach to address,” the Commandant said.
He also stressed that, the seminar will assist the officers in executing their roles effectively during Counter Terrorism and Counter Insurgency Operations. Therefore, he urged the Student Officers and other participants to make judicious use of this unique opportunity and contribute to the development of the future generation of the nation’s Armed Forces.
While in his address, the SGOH, Major General Akinjobi, said, the seminar was apt and timely considering the enormous roles the Armed Forces and other security agencies play in confronting the security challenges in the country.
He disclosed that effective Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency involves a plethora of issues like good governance, population security as well as solid economic development measures, all of which must be underpinned by robust information operations which unify and drive other activities including military activities, he said.
Therefore, he charged the officers to take the lessons from the seminar seriously and keep them close to their hearts. Finally, he commended the efforts of the Commandant for organizing the seminar and maintaining the high standard which the College is known for.
Highlights of the seminar included, question and answer session, presentation of souvenir to the SGOH and a group photograph.
