Nigerian Army Chief Lieutenant, General Faruk Yahaya has urged troops to show a renewed commitment towards putting an end to banditry and insurgency in the North Western part of the country.
General Faruk stated this in Sokoto today while addressing Soldiers at Giginya barracks as part of activities lined up to mark the Chief of Army Staffs’ operational visit to the 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Sokoto.
The massage was contained in a statement released to the press by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu.
He said the Chief Of Army Staff charged the troops to display more resilience and commitment in the discharge of their duties. He also promised to give the welfare of the Soldiers a pride of place.
General Yahaya however warned troops to desist from acts of professional misconducts, which he said are capable of “Jeopardising ongoing operations, across the country.”
He said that Military institution is built on discipline and that the authorities will not fail to discipline anyone found on the wrong side of the law and of questionable character.
As part of his tour of the State, General Yahaya also commissioned twenty blocks of residential accommodation for Soldiers at Giginya Barracks on Wednesday 20 October 2021.
The General said: “The blocks, which have the capacity to accommodate 120 families, is to alleviate the accommodation challenges faced by personnel in the barracks,” he said.
The COAS also stopped by to visit troops deployed at Forward Operating Base, Anka, Zamfara State, where he received briefings on the recently conducted “Operation Dukan Gudum I and III.
Here, he harped on the need for the troops to maintain cordial relationship with the members of their host communities, in order to elicit goodwill . He also charged the Soldiers to intensify operations to clear bandits’ enclaves operation in the area in particular and the zone in general.
General Yahaya also highlighted the need for the troop to synergise with other security agencies in a bid to restore normalcy to the area.
He assured the troops that the Nigerian Army was working round the clock towards mitigating some of the challenges affecting the conduct of anti banditry operations in the North West in general, while encouraging them to ensure proper handling and maintenance of their weapons.
