Assistant Comptroller of Customs, Nigerian Customs Services, Dr. Sanusi Tasiu Saulawa, PhD, was among the distinguished speakers at the recently concluded 2025 World Border Security Week, held in the historic city of Madrid, Spain. The event, themed “Developing Border Strategies Through Cooperation and Technology,” took place from April 25th to 27th at the prestigious Hotel Eurostar Madrid Tower.

The conference convened leading experts, professionals, and stakeholders from across the globe to examine emerging threats and explore forward-looking solutions in border security, with particular focus on collaboration, innovation, and the strategic application of technology. It addressed critical challenges across air, land, and maritime borders, and underscored the need for robust international cooperation to enhance global border governance.

The annual event featured an impressive lineup of speakers and panelists from reputable institutions including the World Shipping Council (WSC), United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNCCT), US Customs and Border Protection (USCBP), European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex), UK Counter Terrorism and Border Protection Centre, National Center for Border Management (Kosovo), Ghana Immigration Service, and the Indian Coast Guard, among others.

Dr. Saulawa’s participation placed him among this eminent circle of global experts. He shared practical insights and forward-thinking models for effective and secure border management, drawing on his extensive experience in customs operations, inter-agency collaboration, and cross-border enforcement strategies.
