AU Trains Sector 3 Troops On STIs, Mental Health, Cardiovascular and Dental Care in Monguno

The African Union (AU) has trained troops of Sector 3, Operation HADIN KAI/Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), on Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), Cardiovascular Health and Dental Care, as part of efforts to promote the health and wellbeing of personnel.The training, which commenced on Monday, 14 September 2026, concluded today, Friday, 18 September 2026, with a closing ceremony held at Kinnasara Cantonment, Monguno.

The five-day capacity-building programme provided participants with relevant knowledge and practical guidance on the prevention, early identification and management of common health challenges, particularly those that could affect the physical and psychological wellbeing of military personnel. The various sessions focused on sexually transmitted diseases, mental health and psychosocial support, cardiovascular health and dental care. The training also emphasised the importance of healthy lifestyles, preventive healthcare, early intervention and seeking appropriate medical attention when necessary.

Declaring the training closed, the Commander Sector 3 OPHK/MNJTF, Brigadier General SS Ahmed, represented by the Chief of Staff HQ Sector 3, Brigadier General AH Gwani appreciated the African Union for the initiative and the facilitators for sharing their expertise with the troops.

The Sector Commander urged the participants to put the knowledge acquired into practice and promote health awareness among their colleagues. He noted that maintaining sound physical and mental health remains essential to sustaining the wellbeing, resilience and operational effectiveness of personnel.

The closing ceremony featured the presentation of certificates to participants in recognition of their successful completion of the training. The event culminated in a group photograph involving the Chief of Staff, participants, facilitators and other senior officers, marking the successful conclusion of the AU-sponsored health training.

The training further underscores the commitment of Sector 3 OPHK/MNJTF to the welfare and professional development of its personnel, while strengthening health awareness as an important component of operational readiness.
