BREAKING: 21 Chibok Girls Released By Boko Haram
The release of the 21 Chibok girls has come in the wake of President Muhammadu Buhari’s three-day working trip to Germany where he’s scheduled to discuss assistance for the rebuilding of the northeastern part of Nigeria ravaged by the Boko Haram insurgency.
Online news website, Saharareporters writes that the freed girls were picked up by military helicopter from Banki area of Borno state where Boko Haram militants dropped them off earlier today. It is hoped that the girls will be re-united with their families as soon as possible.
In a video released in September, Boko Haram leader, Sheikh Abubakar Shekau revealed the group’s willingness to negotiate with government over a swap deal involving its detained fighters and the Chibok girls.
The group had claimed that some of the girls have been killed in air strikes by the Nigerian troops on its camps. The Nigerian troops however denied the plausibility of this allegation.
Meanwhile, the identities of the girls released today are yet to be ascertained.
