Cardi B Explains Why She Named Her Baby ‘Kulture’

Hours after her baby was born, Cardi B took to her social media to introduce their little bundle to the world, noting that they have named her “Kulture Kiari Cephus.”

As expected, this stirred mixed reactions on social media, especially because her husband Offsett’s rap group, Migos, had named their last two albums, 2017’s Culture and Culture II. So many people felt the name was inspired by the Migos albums.

While Cardi B didn’t lean on that angle, she explained that they chose to name because “anything else woulda been basic.”

This comes months after Cardi appeared on The Ellen Show to discuss her pregnancy and she noted that Offset was responsible for the name. “My dude named the baby,” she said. “I really like the name. It’s like almost tricky, but when it comes out, it’s like ‘Ah!’”

Well, it is ah!

Offset’s real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus.
