Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Pakistan Armed Forces, Visits Chief Of The Naval Staff

The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) of the Pakistan Armed Forces, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla at Naval Headquarters Abuja.

The CJCSC expressed his delight at the warm reception accorded him since he arrived Nigeria and stated that the purpose of his visit was to strengthen the good military relations between Nigeria and Pakistan. Firstly, he itemized many similarities between Nigeria and Pakistan which include similar population size, military defense posture and challenges like cross-border terrorism. Thereafter he recounted the long history of military cooperation between both nations particularly in the area of training where many Nigerian officers had been trained in Pakistan and vice-versa. The CJCSC concluded by highlighting certain areas where the existing military cooperation could be improved. These areas include local ship building capabilities, hydrographic surveys and information sharing.

The CNS responded by thanking the CJCSC for making time to visit Naval Headquarters and reiterated that both nations have enjoyed mutually beneficial relations for many years. He mentioned the ongoing exchange of Directing Staff between Naval War College Nigeria and the Pakistan Naval War College as a good example of existing relations. The CNS agreed with the CJCSC that more collaboration can be achieved and suggested the possibility of NN ships participating in sea exercises with the Pakistan Navy in the near future.
