Change Of Baton In Headquarters Infantry Corps Centre As Major General GM Mutkut Assumes Command As The New Commander Infantry Corps

In a significant reshuffle within the Nigerian Army (NA) aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness, Major General GM Mutkut has officially assumed command as the 59th Commander of the Infantry Corps. The transition ceremony took place on Thursday, 6 November 2025, at the Corps Headquarters situated in the Jaji Military Cantonment, Kaduna State.

The event also marked the formal handover from the outgone Commander, Major General UA Yusuf, who has concluded his active military service after a distinguished career within the NA and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

In his farewell address at the Infantry Headquarters conference room, Major General UA Yusuf expressed profound gratitude to God for his fulfilling military journey. He extended his heartfelt thanks to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede NAM, for entrusting him with the critical role of CIC. Yusuf commended the officers, soldiers, and civilian personnel for their unwavering support during his tenure, emphasizing that their cooperation played a crucial role in the successes achieved. He urged the Corps to maintain their commitment and support for his successor, Major General Mutkut.

Upon assuming command, Major General GM Mutkut expressed his heartfelt gratitude to God for guiding him through his military career. He acknowledged the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for entrusting him with this vital command and expressed commitment to building on the accomplishments of his predecessor. Major General Mutkut vowed to advance the professional standards of the elite Corps of Infantry, equipping them to confront contemporary security challenges in order to foster a safer Nigeria. Furthermore, he encouraged officers and soldiers to maintain professionalism and dedication in their duties, pledging to adopt an inclusive and open-door leadership approach.

The transition ceremony included several notable events: the signing of handing and taking over notes, presentation of the command flag, and the infantry insignia. The new flag was hoisted, symbolizing the start of a new era, followed by an inspection of the Quarter Guard and Major General Mutkut’s inaugural address to the officers of the Corps. The event concluded with a group photograph.
