Chief Of Army Staff’s Father, Yusuf Buratai Laid To Rest
Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, yesterday paid a condolence visit to Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai in Maiduguri to commiserate with the Chief of Army Staff over the loss of his father. The deceased, an ex-serviceman and Second World War veteran, passed on Friday morning.
Governor Shettima, who observed the obligatory Jumma’a congregational prayers at the mosque close to the family home of the Buratai was among the colossal number of mourners during the funeral prayers and interment of the centenarian at Gwange Cemetery along Bama Road in Maiduguri.
On the ground to condole with the Chief of Army Staff, Governor Kashim Shettima and the good people of Borno State was a high-powered Federal Government delegation comprising of the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadiq Abubakar and the State Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Hon. Mustapha Baba Shehuri.
Also present to condole with the Buratais was Sen. Mohammed Ali Ndume, Sen Abubakar Kyari, members of Borno State Executive Council and a host of numerous others.
Speaking on behalf of the Federal Government delegation, the NSA, Babagana Monguno said the delegation was in Maiduguri to convey the sympathy and condolences of President Muhammadu Buhari to Lt. Gen. TY Buratai, Governor Kashim Shettima and the people of Borno State over the unfortunate event. Speaking further, the NSA said the mammoth crowd of sympathisers bears factual testimony to the good life the centenarian led. He urged mourners to pray for the repose of his soul.
In his address, Governor Kashim Shettima thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for sending the high-powered Federal Government delegation to commiserate with the family of General Buratai and the people of Borno State in their time of grief. Speaking further, the Governor said: “The President loves Borno. The President is passionate about Borno and the people of Borno and by extension, the North East. We will remain eternally grateful to him for the peace that is gradually evolving in our part of the world. As rightly encapsulated by the NSA, death is an inevitable destiny that is hanging on everyone’s neck. The only thing we could say is, may Allah (SAW) grant Baba Yusuf Buratai eternal rest and reward him with His Al Jannah Firdaus. On behalf of the family of the deceased and the people of Borno, kindly extend our warmest felicitation and regards to our father, Mr President.”
Governor Kashim Shettima thereafter hosted the delegation at the Presidential Lodge in Borno State Government House.
