Chief Clerks Convention Aimed At Improving Capacity For Productivity – Army Chief Of Personnel Management

The Chief of Personnel Management (CPM) Army, Major General Yakubu Yahaya has re-emphasised that the Chief Clerks Convention (CCC) was aimed at improving the capacity of Chief Clerks (CC) in the Nigerian Army (NA) and by implication their productivity in clerical duties, document security, staff work and office management. He made this known today 3 December 2024, while declaring open a 4 day Convention organised by Army Headquarters Department of Personnel Management (DPM), hosted by 6 Division, NA at Obi Wali International Conference Centre, Port Harcourt.

The CPM (A) reassured that the NA will continue to navigate the ever-changing office management operating landscape to create the enablement for NA CC to remain up-to-date with the latest best practices and techniques in line with emerging trends.

Major General Yahaya further maintained that information and computer technology have more than ever continued to find applications in daily office activities, albeit with threats in cyberspace and emphasized the need for continuous training of CC, who handle all documents, supervise other clerks and manage NA offices.

The CPM (A) expressed his optimism that the CCC will expose participants to new and innovative techniques on data management, clerical duties, organization and office management, having ample time to interact after each paper presentation to enable them to make impactful contributions.

He thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Olufemi Oluyede, for his continuous guidance, support and approval, as well as provision of the resources needed for the conduct of the Convention. He commended the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, NA and the entire members of the organizing committee for the excellent organization, preparation and conduct of the Convention.

Earlier, the GOC, Major General Jamal Abdussalam commended NA Clerks for the critical role they play in the efficient running of the administrative and other personnel matters across various NA formations, units and institutions. He further added that their dedication to duty, expertise through good institutional memory and experience, coupled with attention to detail, are essential in maintaining the high standards in the NA.

The GOC asserted that the year 2024 Convention was designed to enhance the NA Clerks, professionalism and responsiveness for optimal performance upon return to their various deployments.
