Chief Of Air Staff Celebrates Serving Personnel, Honours Fallen Heroes At Interdenominational Church Service
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, on 11 January 2026, joined the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General OO Oluyede, other Service Chiefs, and well-meaning Nigerians at an Interdenominational Church Service organised as part of activities marking the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD) 2026. The service placed strong emphasis on celebrating the courage, resilience, and sacrifice of personnel currently serving across all theatres of operation. The solemn yet uplifting gathering provided an avenue for thanksgiving, prayers, and reflection, recognising both the fallen heroes who paid the supreme sacrifice in defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty and unity, as well as the gallant men and women who continue to confront security challenges with professionalism, dedication, and unwavering resolve.
Represented at the service by the Chief of Operations, Nigerian Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Precious Amadi, the CAS reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s pride in its serving personnel, whose daily sacrifices, endurance, and commitment remain central to sustaining national peace and stability. The occasion also served as a moment of encouragement and spiritual renewal for troops and their families, with prayers offered for divine protection, strength, and success in ongoing and future operations. Participants reflected on the shared bond between past and present generations of servicemen and women, celebrating the living while honouring the memory of those who laid down their lives in service to the nation.
Activities marking AFCRD 2026 will culminate in the main ceremonial parade scheduled for 15 January at Eagle Square, Abuja, alongside simultaneous commemorations across the 36 states of the federation. These activities collectively reinforce the nation’s appreciation of its serving Armed Forces personnel and its enduring gratitude to the fallen heroes whose sacrifices continue to underpin Nigeria’s freedom, unity, and security.
