
Chief Of Army Staff Boosts Girl-Child Education In Zamfara, Commissions Remodeled Government Girls Day Secondary School, Maradun
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commissioned the newly remodelled Government Girls Day Secondary School (GGDSS), Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The landmark project, executed under the COAS Special Intervention Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) initiative, reflects the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to promoting education as a catalyst for national development and security.
The COAS, represented by the Theatre Commander, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), Major General Warrah Idris, highlighted the Nigerian Army’s strategic focus on community engagement and sustainable development. He emphasized that education remains a critical tool for addressing security challenges and building resilient communities. “This initiative is a testament to the COAS’s belief that investing in education today secures a brighter future for the youth of Zamfara State and Nigeria at large,” he stated.
The project facilitator and executor, Major General Mamman Galadima, a distinguished officer of Zamfara State origin, outlined the scope of work executed under the project. He explained that the intervention involved the complete renovation of over 36 classrooms, administrative offices, halls, and laboratories.The school now boasts modern infrastructure, including upgraded roofing and structural enhancements, providing a safe and conducive learning environment. Major General Galadima described the project as a “beacon of hope” for education in Maradun, underscoring the Nigerian Army’s holistic approach to security, which prioritizes the welfare and future of children. “Our mission is to create an environment where every girl-child can excel and realize her full potential,” he added. He further urged the school authorities to take ownership of the facilities and ensure their preservation for future generations.
The Zamfara State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Alhaji Wadatau Madawaki, commended the initiative, noting that it aligns with the state government’s efforts to revitalize the education sector. “This project exemplifies the importance of collaboration and the positive impact of prioritizing education,” he remarked.
The Principal of Government Girls Day Secondary School, Maradun, Mrs Suwaiba Muhammad Nafaru, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Major General Galadima for his visionary leadership and for selecting GGDSS Maradun among numerous schools in Zamfara State for the intervention. She noted that the renovation would significantly enhance the learning experience of the students and reinforce the importance of girl-child education within the community.
The Emir of Maradun, Alhaji Garba Muhammad Tambari, also applauded Major General Galadima’s contributions, describing him as a proud son of the emirate whose legacy would endure for generations. In a gesture of appreciation, the Emir presented an energetic horse to the Chief of Army Staff during the ceremony.
The event was attended by senior military officers, dignitaries, and community leaders, including the Commander, 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Mustapha Jimoh; the representative of the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Brigadier General N. N. Gambo; the Theatre Logistics Component Commander, Brigadier General Mbaka; the Chairman of Maradun Local Government Area, Sanusi Dosara; as well as traditional rulers and other stakeholders.
Through this initiative, the Nigerian Army has once again reaffirmed its commitment to advancing education and community development as essential pillars for sustainable peace and progress in Zamfara State and beyond.
