Chief Of Defence Staff Visits Defence Industries Corporation Of Nigeria

A delegation from the Defence Headquarters Abuja led by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa OFR paid a visit to the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) on 18 March 2024. The CDS and his team were received at the boardroom of DICON Headquarters in Kaduna by the Director General, Major General AE Edet.

The Director General, in his welcome remarks, updated the CDS on the progress made so far in DICON. The Director General presented a brief on the production activities and strategic planning for the Corporation. The brief highlighted the bid for a new vision and mission to reposition DICON to meet its mandate. He said collaborative efforts are ongoing and the Corporation is open to more collaboration towards the establishment of a robust military-industrial complex.

The Director General further stated that DICON will be 60 years on 1st August 2024 and efforts are ongoing to mark the anniversary with not only pomp and pageantry but with innovative productions to start a new phase in the progress of the corporation and national security. While concluding his remarks, the Director General expressed the need for modern machines to further boost production for DICON to meet the demands of the Armed forces.

The CDS in his remarks, commended the progress so far and expressed eagerness for DICON to take its rightful place. He said starting something, no matter how small, would go a long way and set the stage for how far the corporation would go. He recommended partnership and collaboration for realization of a robust military industrial complex.

The CDS suggested that the Corporation could harness the skill and knowledge of the abundant local fabricators in its drive for local production. This would mitigate the current unemployment and security challenges in the country while also earning foreign exchange.

The CDS also toured the Ordinance Factory and observed ongoing production activities.
