Chief Of The Naval Staff Attends Africa Strategic Summit On Shipping Decarbonisation

On Monday 17 March 2025, the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla attended the first Africa Strategic Summit on Shipping Decarbonisation held at the TRANSCORP Hilton Hotel Abuja.

The summit, organised by the Honorable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola CON was focused on strategic imperatives to achieve zero shipping decarbonisation in Africa. The Summit brought together the leading stakeholders in the maritime industry including the Chairman Senate Committee on Transportation, Honourable Wale Eshonlokun, the Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Marine Transport, Honourable Abdulsamad Dasuki, the Honorable Minister of Innovative Science and Technology, Honorable Ministers of Environment, Foreign Affairs, Industry, Trade and Investment, and the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Dr Dayo Mobereola.

In his remarks, the CNS noted that although the current energy landscape in Nigeria is predominantly based on fossil fuels, the Nigerian Navy has started incorporating solar power in her energy options and is well positioned to contribute to the overall goal of decarbonisation in the maritime environment.

The Summit which continues today, Tuesday 18 March 2025, is expected to shape how Africa reduces her carbon footprints in line with global efforts.
