COAS Declares Commanding Officers’ Workshop Open, Stresses Need For Improved Operational Efficiency

In furtherance to the actualization of his command philosophy, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja has declared open a 5-day capacity building workshop for Commanding Officers (COs) at 6 Division Python Officers’ Mess, Port Harcourt Barracks.

Speaking at the Second Commanding Officers’ Workshop, he stressed the need for improved operational efficiency of tactical level commanders. He further said, the theme of the workshop which is “Enhancing Tactical Level Command and Leadership within a Joint Environment” was apt and designed to enhance the COs professional competences, while confronting various security challenges facing the nation.

The COAS was represented by the Chief of Training, Army, Major General Sani Mohammed, who reiterated that the workshop was designed to be highly informative, thereby equipping the commanders with the knowledge necessary to lead effectively in their various commands.

Furthermore, the COAS expressed profound gratitude to the President, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his strategic guidance and unflinching support to the NA. He stated that his unwevering support and commitment have contributed immensely to the success of NA operations.

Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, while welcoming the COAS and participants, affirmed that the presence of the COAS is a testimony of the trajectory of the current leadership of the NA. The leadership he averred focuses on training, equipping and motivating personnel across all cadres, with requisite knowledge and professional competence for optimal performance.

Major General Abdussalam expressed gratitude to the COAS for providing the resources to host the workshop, among many other capacity building initiatives. He assured that the improved security situation in 6 Div AOR and the tremendous successes recorded are clear testimonies of robust operations conducted by troops of the Division under the guidance of the COAS, which have yielded significant increase in oil production and a marked decline in security incidents in the AOR. “Our troops will continue to dominate all threat areas towards the protection of lives and critical national assets, which are imperative to our mandates within the joint operation area,” he said.

The 5 day long workshop was fully packed with lectures such as Tactical Level Command and Leadership in contemporary security Environment in Nigeria: South West, South East and South South Theatres in perspective, Career Planning and Prospect for officers in the Nigerian Army, Emerging Admintrative Issues in Units: Way Forward amongst others.

Highpoint of the events were presentations of souvenirs, group photographs, and tree planting.
