COAS Fetes With Frontline Troops In Uyo, Appreciates Their Level Of Professionalism

In a remarkable show of solidarity and support for the frontline troops, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede in appreciating troops for their bravery, professionalism and dedication organized a special luncheon to honor and boost their morale. The historic event took place at 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army (NA), Military Cantonment, Mbiokporo, Akwa Ibom State on Saturday 7 June 2025.

While delivering his remarks, the COAS, who was represented by the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs (CCMA), Major General Gold Chibuisi, commended the troops for their unwavering dedication to duty and assured them of the continuous support of the NA leadership. He reiterated the COAS’s commitment to improving operational effectiveness and ensuring the morale and welfare of all personnel remains a top priority.

Speaking during the event, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, who was represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Internal Security and Waterways, Brigadier General Koko Essien (Rtd), conveyed the Governor’s gratitude to the troops for their dedication and sacrifices. He further emphasized the critical role they play in ensuring peace and security in the State. He added that the state government is committed to supporting security agencies in the fight against militancy, and other forms of criminality in the State.

While, delivering his welcome address, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division and Land Component Commander (LCC), Joint Task Force (JTF), South South (SS), Operation DELTA SAFE (OPDS), Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, stated that the luncheon provided an invaluable opportunity for frontline troops to engage with senior military leadership, receive encouragement, and take a well-deserved respite from their demanding duties. The GOC/LCC appreciated the troops for their resilience in discharging their responsibilities.

Relatedly, the Commander, 2 Brigade and Sector 4, JTF, SS OPDS, Brigadier General Alexander Tawasimi, reassured that the NA remains committed to enhancing effectiveness and ensuring a secured environment for socio-economic activities to thrive. He thanked the dignitaries for making a date with the Brigade to celebrate the frontline troops in Mbiokporo Cantonment.

The event climaxed with a group photograph with the injured soldiers and heads of military, as well as paramilitary agencies. There was also presentation of souvenirs.
