COAS Inaugurates Dormitory For Students In Kano

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, has inaugurated a 30-bunk beds dormitory for students in Kano State. Inaugurating the project on Friday 6 September, 2024, the COAS said; the project was part of efforts of touching lives in various communities to alleviate, support and encourage host communities.

The COAS who was represented by the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army/Commander Operation Whirl Punch, Major General Mayirenso Saraso congratulated the project executor, Major General Sani Ibrahim, Commandant, Nigerian Army Institute of Science, Education and Technology for the laudable initiative, commending the project’s timely completion and the quality of work done.

The COAS thanked His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for provision and unrelenting support at all times. He further commended the people of Kano State for creating enabling environment for Army Formations to function in the State.

Earlier, the project executor, Major General Sani Ibrahim expressed appreciation to the COAS for the construction of Sumaila Community Students Hostel which he said will address a critical need of the students. He disclosed that the project will cater for 30 students of Sumaila LGA community and also assured them of the COAS’ commitment to support educational development, fostering youth empowerment and creating opportunities for academic excellence. He therefore called on the beneficiaries to make best use of the facility while emphasizing that it is a little way to contribute to his community.

The Chief of Civil Military Affairs, Major General Nosakhare Ugbo, in his remarks, said the COAS’ Special Intervention Projects was initiated by Army Headquarters Department of Civil Military Affairs to support communities. He added that the initiative is also one of the ways the Nigerian Army associates and collaborates with communities to impact positively on their lives as well as engender their support. He said the project will form an aspect of NA non-kinetic operations towards addressing the security challenges bedeviling the country and to further strengthen the Civil-Military Cooperation in benefiting communities.

Expressing his appreciation on behalf of the community, the District Head of Sumaila, Alhaji Ibrahim Ado Bayero thanked the Nigerian Army for the huge project. He expressed the believe that the project would strengthen educational development in their community.
