
COAS Inspires Pioneer Instructors, Sets High Benchmark For Discipline and Excellence At Depot Nigerian Army Amasiri-Edda
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Wednesday, 25 February 2026, charged pioneer instructors of Depot Nigerian Army Amasiri–Edda to lay a formidable foundation of discipline, professionalism and excellence that will define the institution for generations. He gave the charge during an operational visit to the Depot Nigerian Army Amasiri–Edda Temporary Training Area located within the Jaji Military Cantonment.
In his remarks, the COAS emphasized the critical role instructors play in shaping the character and competence of recruits, urging them to uphold the highest standards of discipline, professionalism and instructional excellence. He noted that they are laying the foundation upon which the reputation, effectiveness and enduring legacy of the Depot will be built.
Lieutenant General Shaibu further encouraged the instructors to seize the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to national security by moulding recruits into competent, loyal and resilient soldiers capable of meeting contemporary security challenges.
Earlier, the Commandant, Depot Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Ahmadu, while briefing the COAS on progress, ongoing training activities and future plans, highlighted the strategic importance of the Depot in expanding the Nigerian Army’s training capacity and transforming eligible youths into disciplined and professional soldiers.
Highlight of the visit was the COAS’ comprehensive tour of the temporary training area, during which he inspected key facilities including recruits’ accommodation, lecture halls, sanitation facilities, the Medical Reception Station and the cookhouse to assess infrastructure standards and welfare arrangements. He also observed weapon training sessions and practical demonstrations by recruits on the AK-47 rifle, RPG-7 and hand grenade drills.
