COAS Reaffirms NA’s Commitment To Tackle Contemporary Security Challenges, Declares Sensitization Seminar On Terrorism Open In Kaduna

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to ending insurgency by developing modern operational tactics and procedures that will defeat contemporary security challenges bedeviling the country. Lt Gen Lagbaja gave this assurance during a Sensitization Seminar on Lessons Learned and Chemical,Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Terrorism organized by Army Headquarters Department of Transformation and Innovation (DATI) at 1 Division Auditorium Kaduna.

Declaring the seminar open, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Toareed Lagbaja who was represented by the General Officer Commanding 1 Division and Commander Sector 1 Operation FASAN YAMMA, Major General Mayirenso Lander David Saraso, described the seminar as one of the many measures put in place to mitigate the challenges face by troops while operating in a complex security environment.

The COAS further stated that the lectures to be delivered were all in line with his command philosophy for the Nigerian Army, which is to ‘Transform the Nigerian Army into a Well trained, Equipped and Highly Motivated Force towards Achieving our Constitutional Responsibility within a Joint Environment’.

The COAS averred that the NA will continue to develop operational tactics and procedures that will defeat contemporary security challenges and also urged all commanders to come up with ideas towards improving the welfare of troops and as well maintain battles readiness.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Chief of Transformation and Innovation (Army), Major General Zakari Abubakar noted that the theme captures the desire of the Nigerian Army to rejig the fighting skills of troops. He added that the seminar was organised to create awareness and enhance the leadership capacity of the Junior- m?Middle Cadre Officers and troops of the NA at large.

High points of the event were paper presentations on Suppression of Acts of Chemical , Biological, Radiology and Nuclear (CBRN) terrorism delivered by Dr Nasiru-Deen Bello, Effect of Drug and Substance Abuse: Implication for the Nigerian Army Operational Effectiveness by an NDLEA representative and Nigerian Army Lessons Learned Processes by Maj CB Onu. Others include signing of visitors books, exchange of souvenirs and group Photographs.
