Combat Service Support Corps’ and Nigerian Army College Of Logistics and Management Hosts WASA 2025

In a colourful display of culture and tradition, the Combat Service Support Corps’ and the Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management held their Year 2025 West African Social Activities (WASA) at An Barracks on 31 January 2026.

Speaking at the event, the Special Guest of Honour (SGOH), the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, who was ably represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Babalola, described WASA as an enduring cultural legacy dating back to the era of the West African Frontier Force. He explained that the event provided commanders with a unique opportunity to appreciate the dedication and sacrifices of personnel and their families, while encouraging renewed commitment for the year ahead.

Major General Babalola noted that through the dedication, professionalism, sacrifices, and adherence to the core values of the Nigerian Army by personnel, the vision of the Nigerian Army has been significantly advanced. He iterated that although the welfare of personnel remained a top priority of the Chief of Army Staff, troops must remember that to whom much is given, much is expected. He further urged personnel to sustain their commitment, discipline and loyalty to the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the new year. In the same vein, he cautioned them against negative vices contrary to professionalism particularly substance abuse.

Earlier, the Chief Host, Commander Corps of Medical (CCM) Brigadier General IA Enwuchola in his welcome remarks emphasized that the event promoted esprit de corps and strengthened the bond among personnel, their families, and the host community. He noted that the gathering provided a rare opportunity for personnel to relax and socialize while reflecting on the successes recorded in the previous year as well as looking forward to a new year.

Brigadier General Innocent Enwuchola further stated that WASA also served as a platform to recognize and reward deserving soldiers whose dedication and professionalism contributed significantly to the achievements recorded during the outgoing year.

The climax of the event was the Beating of Retreat ceremony, which marked the end of Year 2025 activities, as well as the lighting of the campfire. Other activities included the inspection of cultural delicacies at various corps stands and that of the college, traditional dance performances, presentation of awards to deserving personnel, and the tug of war competition.

The occasion was graced by Host Commanders, senior officers both serving and retired, as well as specially invited guests from the various corps, the host community and sister security agencies.
