Commandant NASME Emphasizes Importance Of Training In Combating National Security Threats

The Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering (NASME), Major General Idongesit Essien Ekpenyong, today 6 November 2025, stressed the significance of training in enhancing the capability of personnel to combat National security threats. He made this known at the graduation ceremony of Counter Improvised Explosive Devices (C-IED) course, held at the NASME Officers’ Mess, NASME Barracks, Markudi.

He urged the participants to effectively utilize the tactics and procedures acquired during the training to build trust and enhance their capabilities in addressing security challenges.

The Commandant, represented by the Deputy Commandant, NASME, Colonel Ibraheem Imam Zubairu, emphasized that the rigorous training received by participants would enable them to respond effectively to emerging threats and adhere to international best practices.

Colonel Zubairu highlighted that the course aimed to share global best practices in C-IED, develop individuals and teams, and facilitate intelligence sharing on C-IED techniques. He expressed appreciation to the training team from the French Armed Forces for their contributions and recognized the efforts of the Chief Instructor Combat Wing, Colonel Ayuba Nandang, and other instructors.

Earlier in his address, the Chief Instructor Combat Wing, Colonel Ayuba Nandang, thanked the Commandant for providing the necessary resources and support for the successful conduct of the course. He stated that the training covered essential courses, including Complimentary Operational Search techniques, Creation of C-IED Training Circuit, and Route Clearing Procedures for Engineer Combat Platoon.

The course comprised 40 Nigerian Army personnel and 21 Nigerian Air Force personnel from various formations. In her vote of thanks, Squadron Leader JE Maduka expressed gratitude to the Commandant for providing an enabling environment and pledged to apply the skills acquired during the course.

The graduation ceremony featured the presentation of certificates, exchange of souvenirs and group photographs.
